The name Dereszewski

The surname derives, according to the dictionary of Kopaliński, from the color of horse with the dirty rot and white patches called ,,dereś,,. In the past this word was also used for the type of cheap, bad wine (from the Hungarian word ,,deres,, with the same meaning). It is not excluded that ancestors of Dereszewski family came from Hungary.
The Vistula valley where most members of the family were noted in the past was some kind of migration route. Many foreigners settled here e.g. in the Kazimierz Dolny where immigrants from the Italy and Scotland were citizens.

According to Rymut (The names of Poles – the historical/etymological dictionary, Kraków 1999) – the name Deresz– can be derived from the word ,,deresz,, ‘horse of colour grey; also the man with grey hairs: related surnames in Poland: Deresz-ak, Deresz – szczuk, Deresz-czyk, Deresz-czyński, Deresz-eń, Deresz-ewicz, Deresz-ewski, Deresz-kiewicz, Deresz-eszko, Deresz-niak, Deresz-owski, Deresz-yński, Deres, Deres-ewicz, Deresi-ewicz 1768 (the time of the first appearance in document), Deres-iński, Deresi-uk, Deres-kiewicz, Dereś.

In the Geografical Dictionary (Chlebowski and Walewski, 1888) in the former eastern territories of Poland (called in Polish – Kresy wschodnie – Polish Eastern Borderland) there were two villages with the stem ,,deresz,, – Dereszewicze (former Mozyrz district) and Dereszowce (near the Terebieża River).

The surname Deresz is mentioned in Boniecki’s heraldic nobility. Also the surname Deresiewicz is mentioned in other ones. In the ship manifest from Ellis Island the surname Deresz is linked to Jews, immigrants to America from eastern Poland.

In Poland, persons with the surname Dereszewski are noted, whose name formerly had the form Deresz. The change occurred after WW2, probably as the result of informal individual action of return to ,,true” and clear form of polish surnames. It is not excluded that this change was made by Poles with the Jews roots. The Jews with the surname Deresz are noted on the web site of ,,Częstochowa – Radomsko area research group”.

The distribution of the name Dereszewski in Poland in 1980/1990 in former provinces (at present replaced by larger ones) according to Rymut (1992- Słownik nazwisk współcześnie w Polsce używanych – Dictionary of the surnames used recently in Poland). Ancestral line from Gruta
This data are collected from German genealogical web site and birth/marriages/death certificates of the church at Gruta (German name Grutta). Gruta is the village situated to the east from Grudziądz and to the north from Wąbrzeźno. It is possible that the family Dereszewski migrated in this area from Ziemia Dobrzyńska.

Tomasz Dereszewski and Franciszka Kaniecka had 5 children:
Adam, Ignacy – born on 24 Dec 1848; (baptism on 1 Jan 1849).+ Katarzyna Jeleniewska. They had two children:
…..Joannes, son, born on 18 Oct 1872; (baptism on October 20).
…..Mariana (Marianna), daughter, born on 28 Sep 1873, (baptism on 29 September).
Joannes born on 18 Mai 1850, (baptism on 20 Mai 1850).
Marianna born on 19 Dec 1852, (baptism on 26 Dec 1852).
Anna born on 31 Aug 1855, (baptism on 9 Sep 1855).
Katarzyna born on 21 Aug 1860 and baptism the same day.
Because of an error in registration of the surname (or during the reading) instead of the Franciszka Kaniecka, the surname Franciszka Vaniewska is given. Thus the sixth kid of Tomasz and Franciszka might be
Franciszek born on 30 Apr 1859, (baptism on 8 Mai 1859).

Michał Dereszewski and Marianna Konkoleska (surely Kąkolewska) had kids:
Franciszek born on 16 SSep 1856, (baptism on 21 Sep).
Roman born on August 1858 and baptism on 15 August.
Kazimierz born on 5 March 1861, (baptism the same day).
Johannes on 13 Dec 1862 (baptism on 21 Dec).

With this line is connected Janusz Andrzej Dereszewski, resident of Jastrzębia Góra, coming from Puck. His grandpa – Franciszek Dereszewski – was born at Przesławice, near Grudziądz and great grandparent – Dominik Dereszewski (born at Górall, near Jabłonowo Pomorskie) and Katarzyna Dereszewska (Mądrzycka) lived also here. Dominik was born probably in 1865 and died on 26 Oct 1938 at Przesławice. Katarzyna was born on 25 Mar 1867 at Bratian. Both are buried at Szczepanki near Grudziądz. They may be undoubtedly related to the fifth line. From the oral history is known that Dominik Dereszewski, when he went to nearby Toruń, he visited along the way his brother at Gruta. Johann Dereszewski and Katharina (Katarzyna) Maliszewski (or Waliszewski) were parents of Dominik and Katarzyna. They got married at Gruta on 28 Oct 1853. Katarzyna probably came from Gruta.
In the Archidiociese archives in Toruń, there are birth certificates from Gruta (1748-1878) as well as marriage certificates (1711-1893). At Gruta in the church there are registers of births since 1879 and marriage certificates ssince 1893. Janusz Andrzej Dereszewski was born at Puck, where his grandpa Franciszek Dereszewski lived (born on 30 Oct 1895 at Przesławice).

Franciszek at the age of 20 was incorporated to the German Army. After an initial training in the Reserve Batalion of 5th Regiment of Grenadiers at Kwidzyn he was sent to the ost front. From the curriculum vitae deposited in Central Military Archive arises that since 26 Aug 1915 being in German Army he took part in battles in Russia, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia. After that before demobilization he was active in secret Polish military organization in Pomerania. He came back to Przesławice in 12 Dec 1918. At the beginning of October, knowing that the uprising against German in Pomerania has no chance, he, and his younger brother Jan, not informing close relatives, decided to go to Poznań and join to uprising in Wielkopolska. In the night they crossed military demarction line between Brodnica and Osiek. Next they went to Rypin, where they stayed a few days, until more insurgents-volunteers meet in this city. After that they were transported by Polish corporal to the Włocławek and next with train to Poznań. He was incorporated on 2 Nov 1919 to the 4th Grudziądz Company of Regiment and next to the 1th Battery of Pommeranian Regiment of Field Artillery conducted by lieutenant Jan Bigocki. On 3 Jan 1921, when he came back from army, he worked on the railway as the head of steam engine in the line Puck-Hel. Before WW2 he built the house where today live the Dereszewski family. During first days of WW2 he stayed at Hel peninsula. Up to the beginning of 1940 he worked as engine-driver. He died at the age of 45, on Aug 1940, in Gdańsk. The reasons were probably earlier injuries when he was beaten by Germans, caming back late to the family house. He was found near his house by his wife Helena

According to Rozalia Dereszewska (widow, 85 years old, from Grudziądz, wife of Józefat Dereszewski which was born at Gruta) estate at Gruta was sold and no one from the family lives at this place anymore. Józefat Dereszewski was son of Franciszek Dereszewski (Franciszek – brother of Dominik Dereszewski). Dominik Dereszewski as mentioned above visited often Franciszek Dereszewski.

Jan DereszewskiGrudziądz1918

Jan Dereszewski at Grudziądz, 1918.

Jan Dereszewski was son of Dominik and Katarzyna Dereszewska. He was born at Przesławice (near Grudziądz) in 1897 where he studied during 7 year in the primary school. On Dec 1926 he was incorporated to the German Army in which he served on the Western Front, in France. When he came back, he was assigned to the reserve company of machine-guns at Grudziądz. While still in German Army he delivered a few machine-guns and guns to Poles, members of the newly formed Polish Army and he joined Polish Military Organisation (called in Polish – P.O.W.). In 1919 he tried escape to Poznań. At the line of demarcation he was captured and locked up in prison at Brodnica. After two days he escaped and on September the first he joined up 64th infantry regiment (later artillery) of Polish Army as volunteer. He took part in the battle in Pomerania and since Mai 1920 to armistice he struggled with Bolsheviks in eastern Poland. In 1921 he was upgraded to professional non-commissioned officer and he stationed in Toruń. In 1924 he took part in pilotage course in Bydgoszcz as well as in meteorological and driving license courses. Being a fire master he was technical non-commissioned officer in field headquarters of artillery base in Toruń. During WW2 he was member of Andres Army (with wife, son and daughter). After the WW2 he lived in England, where at the age of 80 he died.
In the Kaszuby and Pomorze (Pomerania) regions, there are noted persons with the surname Dereszewski (coming from Gruta?). In the parish Rajkowy (not far to Pelpin) marriage certificate of Jakub Dereszewski with Barbara Zielińska was noted in 1833 and in the Lalkowy, near Nowe, death of Joannes Dereszewski at the age of 4 was registered in 1823. Today, some members of the Dereszewski family are living at Komórsko, near Warlubie.
Grandparents of this line of Dereszewski family – Jan and Matylda – had farm at Okonin (near Gruta). Jan Dereszewski probably can be correlated with 5 line 1aa Joannes born 18 X.1872.

Dereszewski family from Glewo

The oldest known Dereszewski name noted not far from Glewo is the death of Jan Dereszewski (d.c. 25, 1765) in Radziejów, about 30 km to the west from Włocławek. Probably Dereszewski family resided in the vicinity after that date (Jadwiga Deresz, b.c. 54, 1808, Witowo n. Radziejów, about 27 km from Włocławek.
Paweł and Petronela and father of Paweł – Ignacy – are the oldest known members of the family Dereszewski from Glewo (apart from Mikołaj and Ewa – discussed below). It is not excluded that Ignacy died in 1797 (d.c. 633), because Dobrzyń parish records noted death of Ignacy Draszewski. The name Ignacy (without last name) is mentioned in birth record of Kunegunda (1766, 653) – parents – Ignacy and Dorota. Kunegunda Ignacowa died in 1781 (691). The last name of Petronela is recorded in parish certificates in different ways. The name Zdunczyna and Zygmuntowicz sound similar, however the Lewndowska one sounds quite different. However, it has to be stressed that 45 y.o. witnees said so, after the death of Andrzej, 80 y.o. Paweł’s son. This is very remote period. But even in death certificate of Paweł (1819) Petronela is described as ,daughter of unknown parents’’ – witnesses – Andrzej and Marcin (her sons) were present in the parish office. Similarly in her death certificate (1826) she is described by witnesses, not family members as Wieczorkiewicz. Undoubtedly Paweł and Petronela were parents of Andrzej, Marianna, Stanisław, Marcin/Teodor and Antoni. The last one is witnees in death certificate of Wiktroryn (son of Andrzej, 1819) and he is described as his uncle. This explains his family relationship with brothes. The death of Stanisław Dereszewski in 1795 (Damszewski?, b.c. 2524, 1784, Dobrzyń; d.c. 1153, Dobrzyń n. Wisłą) is also early date. Józef Dereszewski son of Mikołaj and Ewa (b.c. 3307, 1803; d.c. 1531, 1803, Dobrzyń n. Wisłą) also represents this group. His genealogical roots can be similar to the above described Stanisław and other sisters and brothers. His father – Mikołaj – would be surely brother of Paweł. The death of Paweł Doroszewski (-e?) in 1786 (d.c. 841, Dobrzyń) characterizes ,,the bottom’’ level of Dereszeski tree. In Glewo Dereszewski family is noted ,,with certainly’’ for te first time in 1791 – this is the year of birth of Andrzej; Marcin/Teodor about 1790 and Stanisław in 1794.. ,,Ignacian’’ certificates since 1753 show some uncertainty. Probaly Ignacy with wife and kids – Paweł and Mikołaj arrived to Glewo prior to this period. From Radziejów near Włocławek?
Paweł and Petronela lived together with kids at Glewo in house at number 4. Today at Glewo Dereszewski family lives here anymore. They reside at nearby Bachorzewo (2006 y. – Andrzej Dereszewski, his brother coming from this village and Halina Dereszewska) and at Dyblin (they probably moved to Włocławek).

Offspring of Marcin, Teodor and Małgorzata Lędzińska was born in Glewo (Marianna, 1813; Franciszka 1818, Józef 1823, Jan 1828, Antoni 1832). Jan and Antoni left Glewo. Probably Jan shortly after the marriage with Katarzyna Kostrzewska (1862) moved to the Wielgie Parish (this is the parish of his wife – village Rumunki Wielickie), because their second son – Franciszek – was born already in this place in 1864. First son – Konstatnty – was still born in Glewo. In certificate of his brother Jan is described as forester from Orłowo, Wielgie Parish. Orłowo is small village surrounded by forests to the east from Wielgie. Also at Orłowo Marianna – daughter of Jan and Katarzyna is born in Orłowo – father is described as one day worker. Marianna died at the age of 18 y. Władysław – the next baby of Jan and Katarzyna – was born (1864) after migration to Kamienica, Sobowo Parish, to the ES from Dobrzyń n. Wisłą on the way to Płock. This means that part of the Jan’s family moved to Kamienica, where Jan finaly died in 1881 as well as Marcjanna in 1884.
Probably part, because Konstanty – brother of Franciszek is mentioned in his marriage certificate (1896) as miller in Tupadły near Wielgie. He could surely come back from Kamienica to the vicinity of Wielgie before this date also. Katarzyna her autumn years spent in the house of his son Konstanty at Tupadły, where she died in 1899. Franciszek moved out from Kamienica and first children after the marriage with Józefa Wnuczyńska (coming from the Trutowo near Lipno) – Apolonia and Henryka – were born at Trutowo (1903 and 1904). ………………………………………………………………………………..

It seems that the centre of origin of Dereszewski family was Glewo – small village near Włocławek and Dobrzyń nad Wisłą, Central Poland as is apparent from books of the parish register.
According to the Geographical Dictionary (Słownik Geograficzny, Chlebowski and Walewski 1888) at Glewo in 1827 were 16 ,,smokes,, (that means chimneys in houses) and 133 citizens. About 1888 there was at Glewo 24 ,,smokes,, and 223 citizens. The area owned by peasants – about 62 hectare (including 60 h ploughland and 20 h ……..). The grange Glewo – had 235 h of ploughland and gardens and 42 h of pastures, buildings – 10, wooden.
According to Rymut (Nazwy miejscowe Polski : historia – pochodzenie – zmiany, 1996) the village Glewo was mentioned in documents as Gleuo in 1244; as Chleue, Glebouo in 1291; as Gleuo in 1371; as Glewo in 1564; as Glewo in 1784; as Glewo in 1881.
In local dialect Glewo is inflected as – glevo, gleva, gleski. Glewo is located on the high terrace of Vistula River, forming now dam reservoir. Etymology – the name Glewo, similarly as the name Glew or Glewiec (the last formerly named Glewo) – the two last names in Krakow voivodeship, Głów – all these names are derived from proto-Slavonic name glěvь and this means gluey substance.
In 1358, estate at Glewo owned by Benedictin abbey, which resided at Byszewo (near Kutno?, in Pomerania?) bought Hector from Łąck and his sons (In: Kunikowski S, 2002, Materiały do dziejów rezydencji w Polsce. Ziemia Dobrzyńska t. II, cz.1, Bogota, Budnik, Zaduszniki – zespół dworski, str.238). In 1909 Glewo was under rule of Tomasz Wąsowicz.

Emigrants to USA
The regions of Kujawy and Ziemia Dobrzyńska, because of proximity of border as well as probably the social structure had a large migration potential. This was largely due to the enfranchisement of peasants, which in turn resulted in an increase in rural population. This caused temporary difficulties in the supply of food of small farms. Farmers have heard or have seen (crossing the border with Prussia), that there is a ,,better , richer world’’. Especially this beyond the Ocean, where as Antek from the novel ,,Chłopi’’ said ,,in America gold is so common that we can take it with slotted sieve’’ . It seems that the promoter of migration of Dereszewski family to America was Jakub son of Antoni and Marianna Szydłowska. He lived in Dobrzyń and he was fisherman on Vistula River. At this time Vistula was the transport route for timber to the Gdańsk seaports. Undoubtedly raftmans were well informed about the possibility of migration and they in generall have better view of the world. Jakub being the fisherman must contact with them. Hisdate of migration is the oldest – 1885 y. Probably later the next promoter of migration was his son – priest in Schenectady – Józef Dereszewski. Józef as a pries must have had surely more opportunities.
Bellow we can see representatives of particular branch of Dereszewski family who migrated to America.

Józef DERESZEWSKI and Petronela JABŁOŃSKA (org. Pesronola). They had the following children:

Władyslaw F. Dereszewski “Walter” was born on 18 Jul 1882 in Poland. Permanent home address (1918) – Schenectady, 869 Eastern Avenue. He married Władysława Ida Mikołajczak on 20 May 1906 in Schenectady, Schenectady Co., NY. Ceremony was performed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. According to registration card from 9.12.1918 (below) he was not U.S. Citizen and his recent occupation was mechanist employed in Am. Loco Co.  Władyslawa Ida Mikołajczak was born about Feb 1887 in Mielnica, Gub. Kalisz, Poland (New York State Vital Statistics office, Certificate 14036, NY State Department of Health, Genealogy Unit, Vital Records Section , PO Box 2602 , Albany, NY 12220-2602). Residences in 1920 – 869 Eastern Ave., Schenectady. (Her parents: Franciszek Mikołajczak was born about Jul 1857 in Poland. He died on 21 Jul 1906 in Schenectady, Schenectady Co., NY and he was buried in Schenectady, Schenectady Co., NY . Franciszek married Józefa Araszewska. And her grandpa/ma: Antoni Mikołajczak was born in Poland. He married Katarzyna).
They had the following children: Living – female, living – male, and male Dereszewski was born about Dec 1920 in Schenectady, Schenectady Co., NY. He died about Jun 1927 in Schenectady, Schenectady Co, NY from Pneumonia. (Polish Roman Catholic Union Application for Life Insurance Membership, Register No. 2307. Society No. 767 (Sw. Cecylii).

Probably Adam was brother of Władysław Dereszewski.

Registration card of Władysław

Adam DERESZEWSKI (Dererzewsky, org. Ship Manifest, Ellis Island). He boarded in Hamburg the Ship – Graff Waldersee going to United States and on 3 Feb 1905 he landed in New York. Occupation – joiner? Rather – illiterate. His last residence in Poland – Przedecz near Włocławek. He comes to his brother – Władysław Dereszewski (Schenectady, 875 Da …Av.). He had 10 dollars. Probably Adam came back to Europe with so called ,,Haller Army’’. His name and permanent address is given on the list of polish soldiers of Haller Army.
Probably Franciszek and Adam Dereszewski from Przedecz (look: ship manifests) (joiner?) go to his brother to Schenctady – surely to Władysław. Therefore, there were three brothers coming from Przedecz. Would be they close relatives of Józef and Jakub Dereszowski migrating to Schenectady?

Dereszewski in my family (K. Bińka)

Franciszek Dereszewski – born on 1868 at Wielgie (parents Jan i Katarzyna Kostrzewska). Franciszek’s grave is located at Płonne near Golub Dobrzyń on the old graveyard near church and Józefa on the new one. He had two brothers (older and younges ones) and younger sister. He moved with family to Kamienica (Sobowo Parish) near Dobrzyń n. Wisłą). Before 1903 he married Józefa Wnuczyńska and settled in Parish of wife in the vicinity of Lipno (Trutowo), Ziemia Dobrzyńska where parents of Józefa had farm near the church. Father of Józefa was active member of Parish Council at Trutowo. Brother of Józefa sold this farm and moved to Kalisz, where he had 4 sons and he worked as some kind of gardener (producer of fruits and vegetables). Next he bought his own tenement. Member of the Wnuczyński family was the monk at Niepokalanów. He visited Józefa and Franciszek at Rodzone, wandered on foot from Niepokalanów. First childern of Franciszek and Józefa were born at Wola Trutowo (Apolonia, b.c. 18, in 1903) and at Mazowsze (Henryka, b.c. 34 in 1904). Next they moved to Dobrzejewice n. Toruń, where Henryka died in 1904. Janina, subsequent child was born already at Ruże near Radomin. From Ruże family migrated to Rodzone n. Golub – Dobrzyń, where Teodozja, Wiktor, Józef and Jan were born.
Firstly, family possessed mill and 10 hectares at Ruże, near Golub Dobrzyń. they sold it (7000 rubles and 2000 gold ones?) and he bought new one at Rodzone, near Płonne and Golub Dobrzyń. Part of money – about 1000 gold rubles(?), he located in private and the state bank. Because of the Great Crisis in 20 of XX century and death of Franciszek, Dereszewski family lost a lot of money. Part of it only – after trial – his wife Józefa Wnuczyńska recovered from the state bank. This mill during WW2 was owned by the family Odłęgowski. After death of Franciszek in the mill work asisstant, which caused fire. Helping hand gave hiss sister brother from Kalisz (disabled soldier of war in 1920 y?). The place where mill has been located was sold to Pełkowski family.

According to ,,Wykazu gmin, wsiów, dymów i dziedziców w obwodzie lipnowskim sporządzony przez biuro Komisarza Wojewódzkiego w roku 1825” – “Opis topograficzno-historyczny Ziemi Dobrzyńskiey” of Wincenty Hipolit Gawarecki (1788-1852) there were 6 ,,smokes” at Rodzone in 1825. The squire was Jan Piwnicki (at near Płonne he had 29 ,,smokes”). Before the Second War at Rodzone lived German families – Szlajer (Schleier?) and Tydrych. In wartime their fellow brothers from germany were inscribed in the history of Rodzone a.m. demolition of roadside chapel.

Franciszek and Józefa had 7 childern.
Polcia – (Ewa, Apolonia, born at Mazowsze near Trutowo, b. c. 18, 1903) died at the age of 14. Father – miller, 33 y.o., mother 24 y.o. Witnesses – Marian and Marcjanna Wnuczyńska.
Henryka – born in 1904 at Trutowo. Died in 1904 at Dobrzejewice n. Toruń (d.c. 32). Father -worker in mill? 34 y.o., mother 25 y.o. Witnesses – Piotr Zieliński i Ludwika Wnuczyńska.
Janina – married with Szymon Cybulski from Rodzone (the name of village, ,,born’’ in translation means that it used was inhabited by nobility). Szymon for a long time was in the tsarist armed forces. Janina had probably some contacts with Dereszewski family in USA because after WW2 he prepared documents for migration. They did not have children, but Cybulski had one daughter from the first marriage – Zofia. She at first resided in Gdańsk, and after the death of Janina lived with her husband Pełkowski and 3 sons at Rodzone in the one half of house, in the second one resided Wiktor Dereszewski. Her sons – Olek lives at Radomin, Stach and Janusz – one is a forest worker at Konstancjewo (2 kids with first wife, after her death he moved to Rodzone with his second wife – domo Sarna) and the second one in Gdańsk. After the death of Wiktor because of the house gradually lost its quality, Zofia moved to the building of the former dairy. Brother of Szymon Cybulski had smithy at Rodzone at the cross-road. He had two sons – one – Jerzy – had farm at Rodzone and cattle-breeding – died about 2006 (his father a few year earlier). I met him during my visit at Rodzone. Daughter of Jerzy after the death of her husband sold the farm and reside in the small house at Rodzone. Brother of Jerzy moved to nearby Radomin and after divorse built a small house near the stream at Rodzone, in the place, where Franciszek Dereszewski had a mill before the war.
Teodozja – (grandma for KB) – wife of Józef Stefański. Born on 28 Mai 1909 at Rodzone. Died in 2004. She had farm at Półwiesk (Plebanka Płońska) near Rodzone.
Wiktor – Died on 1 Jun 1986 at the age of 72. He resided at Rodzone in small house near the stream. He had small farm (bee-keeping, many bee hive) and worked in forest service. After WW2 this house (for two families) Wiktor bought from Jaran (Jaranowski?) and the second half form Rogalewski. His wife was Barasieńska Janina which previously lived with parents at the so called Św. Trójca near Drwęca River. Wiktor’s estate was owned successively by Janina Barasieńska and after that daughter of sister of Janina (Dygałka) and finally son of Waldemar – brother of Janina (2013).
Józef – born on 18 Mar 1918 at Rodzone. Before WW2, being semi orphan, he had right to study in the military school (Warsaw). Talented young poet. Unfortunately his literary manuscripts were lost during WW2. After WW2, his French friends from concentration camp send some manuscripts to the family at Rodzone. But I do not know where these manuscripts are now. Józef Dereszewski is registered on the list of professor Bar (IBL PAN) with one record (Płomyk 1938/1939 n. 38, the magazine for youth, the poem ,,Tęcza,, – ,,Rainbow,,).
During WW2 he was prisoner in Germany. He sent home photos with friends – French soldiers – from this concentration camp. He was seen in these camps by compatriot from Półwiesk (Stanisław Szymański or Stachewicz who has been sent to concentration camp – Dora – acc. to Gałkowski ,, Monography of Wąpielsk and Radziki’’). Because of starvation he worked (with parents agreement) in the German farm (so called ,,bauer”). Some time, because of refusal of acceptance of ,,Volksliste” (?) and unknown other reasons he was sent by STAPO Magdeburg to the concentration camp Buchenwald (subcamp Dora?) on 17 Dec 1942. At this time numerous transport of prisoners (partly murdered at Magdeburg) from Magdeburg was organised by the chief of STAPO Helmut Bischoff (also the chief of ,,Einsatzkommando 1IV” – in Poland taking part in mass murder of civilians). He died on 9 Feb 1945 after allied bombing (Auschwitz archive – Buchenwald files) – the place of death is given – Weimar.

Jan – died during WW2.
